Description of position/ skills/ experience required:
Reads and interprets engineering drawings and specifications.
Electrical schematics and understanding for the purpose of fault finding, faults.
Measures and fits metal components using hand tools, power tools and machines.
Fit guards to machines and fit them accordingly and make bolt hole all line up. Shrouds, nose cone assemblies, measured and made to fit back on the equipment.
Prepares and configures machine tools for specific jobs, and ensures correct fixtures, settings and tools are applied. Including using torque wrenches, manufacturer specifications, setting bearing preloads with preload tooling, carrying valves. Tuning engines as per engine’s specifications, diagnosing and fault finding using specialised tooling.
Assembles metal parts and subassemblies according to engineering specifications. Including pulling track frame off dozer, fabricate it, surface it according to service manuals, refurbish back on machine. Removing a final drive on a dozer, overhauling it and then reinstalling on equipment.
Fits fabricated metal parts into products and assembles metal parts and subassemblies to produce machines and equipment. This includes working on the component of a machine, remove component, recondition, or new assembly, pull off assembly and then then put new component.
Repairs and maintains machines and equipment by replacing or repairing faulty parts
Tests and adjusts machines and equipment to ensure proper functioning
Interprets engineering drawings and specifications
Measures metal components for cutting, shaping and welding
Fits and assembles metal parts according to engineering specification Removing and replacing component
Cuts and shapes metal components using hand and power tools-
Cleans welds by filing, chiselling and grinding
Inspects and tests welded components for quality and compliance with specifications
Preventative and breakdown maintenance
Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, rebuild a range of heavy mining equipment and machinery.
Servicing/ overhauling and rebuilding heavy diesel machinery
Diagnosing and repairing: Identifying and fixing faults in diesel engines, heavy diesel equipment including dozer, graders and other mechanic such as transmissions, steering, suspension, and brakes
Liaise with clients and managers to ensure timely completion of all work.
Maintain detailed records of all work undertaken.
Skills & Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience.
Ability to carry out tasks with minimal supervision or no supervision.
Proven ability to meet deadlines and to make independent decisions.
Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
Proven ability to work within a team environment.
Possess a driver’s licence. HR or HC desirable.
Preferred certified Tradesperson, Heavy Vehicle Road Transport Certificate III or relevant qualifications and/ or relevant experience as a fitter
